Two weekends ago I left the warmth of Florida and braved the tough Northestern elements in New York City. Of course no trip to NYC would be complete without a trip to my favorite Yarn Shop - Purl. I just adore this little store. The weather was cold, rainy and damp but my sister and I braved it and headed downtown for this treat. And boy where we in luck! On most occasions this little shop can get a tad busy and it's tough to poke around - but on this day it was perfect. We sat at the table and glanced through books and even had the pleasure of chatting with Joelle Hoverson, owner of the shop and author of Last-Minute Knitted Gifts. She helped me find a Glove pattern for some Koigu I chose and my sister bought some Alpaca to make the 'boyfriend scarf'. This is my sister's first time knitting and I think I will have her hooked! We then took our knitting goods and headed over to the W, Union Square where we found a comfy couch and hankered down with our fiber and a good cocktail. As we knit in public - a nice mother and daughter sat next to us and inquired about what we were knitting and discussed their love of the craft. It was a really nice time - but we didn't get too much on the needles because we talked so much! Later that night we went and enjoyed some Indian Food and then a Zydeco Band - Gene Delafose & French Rockin Boogie - which was a blast. My friend Joan can dance I tell ya! In the wee hours of the morning - we were back at the W - Time Squares enjoying beverage when who should be see - but Hal Sparks! He's the cute comedian who does all those commentaries on VH-1's I love the 80, 90 etc. I guess he was in town doing a show at Caroline's Comedy Club. I gave the 411 to my sister that Hal was at the bar, which he totally saw me do, and she did this funny this like wave at him nonchalantly "Oh, ya him" and he sooo saw that and did this "Hey - Hi" right back at ya face. You had to be there because he totally saw her poo-poo him and was looking at us the whole time and we felt so silly about it. Too many beverages!!
An hour later (3am) - my drunken sister sat and knit - let's just say she tried to knit. When we woke up it was all so wrong! She was a froggin'
So here are some pictures of my Koigu Fun Gloves in progress. They are knit on the tinest of needles (0 and 1). As skinnyrabbit would say - I love knitting with Pick-Up-Sticks! I have never attempted Gloved before so I am a bit proud that I could successfully knit one up! I chose to make them tipless because I like to have the ability to use my fingers while fishin' in my purse. My sister says I look like an Oliver Twist character - "Please sir may I have some more??"
Here is the Koigu PP I used. I love the colors! I have a pink coat and it will go so nicely!

Here is the glove mid-way through - middle finger. Look at those tiny needles.

Voila! The left one is finished! Just need to weave the ends!!
